When I grow up...

I find that I say this often. For example "When I grow up, I will always have a clean house", or "When I grow up, I want to live in a house that isn't attatched to anyone else's", or my favorite is "When I grow up, my husband will be out of school... NOT" (wow it's been many years since I used the term NOT, but I find it fits this sentance well.)

Then this morning I looked in the mirror and recieved bad news... I'm a grown up. You'd think I would have figured this out by now, since I have had 4 children surgically removed from my body, and since my 10 year high school reunion is in August. But no, I've been living in denial. If you are wondering what was so tramatic... I found a GRAY HAIR (actually 2). I was so shocked that I took it and showed Adam. He was unimpressed. He glanced at it and said "Yep, It's Gray". I mean I wanted some sort of celebration or sympathy, but no. I didn't get either.

I'm okay with this I am, I mean I guess I alway knew it would happen, but I never thought it really would. I was not made to grow up, I still laugh at my husband's cheesy jokes, I still find myself flipping to MTV to see what's on, and I still turn the radio up loud when I'm alone and "ROCK OUT".
So when did you know that you were a grown up?
Or are you in denial as well. If my mother is reading this I'm sure she will say "I'm still 29 and can get jiggy wit my homies", but she's crazy like that.

I support Adam's comments. Jenny, Honestly WHAT KIND OF QUESTION IS THAT? Look I have two gray hairs. What's a guy supposed to say? Congratulations, you are one step closer to looking like a cartoon grandma, or I'm sorry, where is the dye so we can make them purple.
I don't think that either of those statements would warrant a good dinner afterward.

I would NOT say "I'm 29" and the other stuff you said. I would say "I used to be 25 but now I'm 30" Get with it would you!! If you are anything like me and you are in a few more years you'll have a grand halo of "angel hair". Hmmm maybe you'll take after Dad :)

I realized I'm a grown up when I started actually thinking, "What's with these kids today?" (meaning local teens) It also doesn't help that I listen to talk radio...a lot. But don't stress, I have actually really liked being over 30, and I firmly believe that God invented hair color for a reason.

I've had gray hair since 19. However, I've always been an old soul so I guess I should have expected it. You, Jenny, will never be grown up.

I was in denial until my agent called me and said,"I have a client who needs a Mom in their 30's or 40's, and we think you would be perfect!" I was 27.
The other moment was when I turned 28, and for the first time, I was indifferent to my birthday, and used the "I don't care what we do today, it's no big deal." I remember being little and hearing my mother blow off her birthday, and I knew then that one day I would grow up and not care about my birthday. Dang!
Okay, final moment....I yelled at Adrian to turn the music down. Only grown ups do that!

I think it was when we moved to Kansas City and I didn't feel as comfortable pranking all these "mothers" I call friends rather than my old college roomies. I thought, "if they get hurt, I don't want to orphan their children." And most of them are my same age (which for the first time, I don't feel like disclosing...). That's growing up. I don't even know my natural hair color, if that makes you feel better.

I found my first gray hair when I was pregnant with my first. James yanked it out and quickly taped it into his journal for all posterity. I think that Adam's reaction was a bit more kind. So, I'm over 30, there's been too many gray hairs to count, occasionally my knees hurt when I go upstairs, and gravity has started to take its toll. However, I still love to watch Mary Poppins, dangle upside down from the monkey bars, and decorate the sidewalk with pretty chalk. This body may be rotting by I'm as youthful as I ever was, as are you my dawling -- and bless you for being so!

I had a nightmare after reading this post. I had gray hairs. Only like 2, but it was a nightmare. I'll probably get gray hairs now that I'm stressing over it. I'm not grown up yet. I will be in 3 months though when I turn 25. So enjoy the un-grown up me for 3 more months, will ya? Thanks F.

I would definitely say when I was 24. Yes, sad I know. Its when I started going to bed around 10:00 p.m. If I stay up past then, I am a wreck, what happened to those days when you could party out late for hours!? And then I also knew because thats the same year I started listening to talk radio. Its pretty sad when you are on a quick lunch break and you are listening to Sean Hannity.

I'm still trying to figure out what I want to do when I grow up! In my 30's, I changed my name from "Barbie" to "Barbara" because I thought that would make me grown up. Well, it didn't really make a difference. I'm not sure I've grown up yet, but I am beginning to feel old, even though I don't think I'm old, because my body is falling apart and because I think young people are not as respectful as they used to be and that offends me. It makes me sad that my body is not able to do the things I used to be able to do - but I'm not sure that means I am grown-up. I think it is a mental thing - that being said, who wants to grow up - life is too much fun!

Nope, I'm still not a grown up! Thanks for the compliments on Sariah. I know she is adorable, but I still love to hear people say it! hehehe No news yet- the Lord loves to test my patience! So we are just waiting. Of course they only started to look at locations Monday, so they aren't moving that slow. Just seems slow to me.

Jen,

I'm not grown up either but I mybody thinks it's old. I found a grey hair when I was 21, it was traumatic. Now they all are grey!

You have the cutest kids (next to mine of course). I have never seen Preston in person but he sure is cute.

I made my first blog yesterday and I want to know how you put those pictures of your kids on the side of your blog. You can look at mine at lindmarkfamily.blogspot.com.

Oh and by the way, I love your father in law, he is a very nice dentist, and for me to say that about a dentist is saying something. He doesn't seem to mind that I'm petrified and that I cry when something is wrong with my teeth. I think I've had to visit him about 6 times in 2 months.

Make you mom get a google name, she commented on my blog as memphis dave. She's afaraid of google!!!
